An apology to start off with,
I have been extremely rubbish about commenting and replying to comments the past week or so. The results of a combination of being out and about more than usual, the barbarous summer heat, and being unreasonably tired out from school. I think that once Friday rolls around and the summer holidays start then I shall be better about it.

Also,
I have three or four posts that I wanted to write up, about 1)Olly Cat and his summer lab, 2) Higurashi no naku koro ni which seems to be an anime about how it's nice to play through a game more than once, 3) the Star Trek film and the new Romulan look, 4) the Demon Lord Mara and whether it's okay to find him funny since I'm clearly not fourteen years old. Those posts can wait until I'm not suffering from Lazyitis.

I think Kyoto Animation hates its fans.

At the end of last night's Haruhi it was like they were jeering contemptuously, "How dare you like our brilliant product!"

And I did. Like it.

Mikuru's hair! Her adorable moe hair when she was crying about the classified information. Oh god. I don't usually like moe girl characters, but Mikuru is my favourite even though it by all rights should be Yuki. Her bikini when they went to the pool! Aaargh! I even love it when she cowers!


Anyway, eventually I'm not onlu going to like the brilliant product, but I'll like the actual abuse from KyoAni underlying it too. Jeez. Way to make me an M, KyoAni.

I hardly ever dream.

Or at least, I hardly ever remember my dreams.

The few times I remember dreaming in the last ten years or so are when I’ve caught the flu or when I’ve been in some other abnormal situation. Neither is the case at present. Despite that, I woke up this morning from a nightmare feeling so scared and inexplicably ashamed. You know, when you wake up still feeling the emotion, and then incredible relief that it was all just a dream. The thing is, when I thought it through, it wasn’t as though anything particularly scary happened in it.

Some friends came over after karaoke for an after-party party and the first thing one said when he saw Olly walk in the room?

Started playing the Megaten game Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army! which has to be one of the best titles I've ever heard. I'll write up a review of it once I've played it through, but so far it is magnificent.

KyoAni and Kadokawa have just been such merciless, unrepentant teases about it before.

I don't dare make myself so vulnerable again.

I can't really post that in my journal as I can't write fic. So... how about this:

There are so many secrets about roleplays on fandomsecrets.

Sometimes, I want to lurk or even join one because it kind of sounds like fun. Mostly I'd just like to lurk to see what all the fuss is about.

But then, I probably wouldn't enjoy it. I don't think they're really the type of roleplay I'm really after.

I'd be yearning for the clack-clack of dice on a wooden table and "You take fifteen points of damage; roll for location," instead of all that lovey-dovey pretty-people-rubbing-up-against-each-other stuff that I (perhaps mistakenly or ignorantly) assume happens instead.



I really want to play in a Cyberpunk d10 system game. What the hell, self! I haven't played Cyberpunk for around eight years now. Even if I went back to England, I don't even think my friends play it any more either. I don't even know if they still have the books. The system wasn't even that nice. A lot of the supplement books were very, very broken and blaggy.

Or Witchcraft. That was quite a nice system with a nice setting too.

I once talked about how there was a docudrama I once saw about Wilfred Owen being an excitible fanboy for Siegfried Sassoon when they were at Craiglockhart together for shell shock. It wasn't a docudrama at all! It was a film adaptation of the novel Regeneration! Apparently, it's nearly impossible to get hold of, for some reason.

It's one of those situations where when you know the answer, rather than being satisfying, it makes you irritatedly mutter, "Of course it was. How did I not realise that earlier?"

Bah. I'm getting bored of war poets and conscientious objectors anyway. The Red Baron's still quite good though. Dogfights are so much more fun when they're in brightly coloured bi-planes.

I thought I should maybe just try harder to draw something good. Maybe that'll fix it. And I'll be a fanart scribbler again, and Olly Cat can be a cat scientist again. Everything would be nice like it was before.

So I set myself a time limit of half an hour to do something I didn't hate. Just do it, I told myself. Just get off your arse and do this thing you know you should be able to do.

The last few days I've been experiencing bouts of irresistible drowsiness. I've been lethargic and weak and useless beyond belief.

I even almost fell asleep on my feet during a lesson yesterday. Swaying precariously, eyelids fluttering closed, and only coming back to consciousness because I would have fallen over otherwise.

"Am I ill?" I asked myself. "Is it some sort of penance for bragging about having an kickass immune system last week?" It would serve me right. It really would.

It took me far longer than it should have done to realise that I was sabotaging myself with hayfever tablets. Yesterday, I took double the recommended dose because I was sneezing from the minute I woke up and that utterly enraged me.

"Ahahaha! Well done, genius!" Is what a grinning Olly would say.

I went to the doctors and used my health insurance to get some new medicine.

I hope that's the end of that.


Also, I have been playing this Tower Defence Game far more than I should. It is an utter pointless waste of time. I am resolved to stop. If I have time to kill, then I should be looking at kanji flashcards or drawing. I should be exp grinding for skill points, not frittering away my time murdering little pixel men running across a field.

I hope that's the end of that too.

1) New Scientist has an article about this bloke who uses echolocation to find his way around.

2) Forget fantasies of ninjas versus pirates. Apparently, according to the Chinese news, in the real world, we have dolphins versus pirates. Dolphins tend to be portrayed as gentle, enlightened, peace-loving creatures but this article makes you think: those “thousands of dolphins” must have formed a mob before the Somali ship started making threatening movements. There’s no way they could have massed in time, otherwise- surely. So... are we to take it that the dolphins were in a mob already, presumably looking for trouble to start so they could get in on some vigilante action?

3) Ants "incredibly successful" at cultivating fungi because they don’t bother with boys. An all female ant group in the Amazon has forgone sexual reproduction in favour of cloning. Apparently, they think boys are a waste of energy. Can we call them the Daughters of the Amazon? Apologies for lame, semi-obscure Vertigo comics-related pun.

I went to get contact lenses today, because I thought I might as well get my money's worth out of my stupid health insurance. It turned out that it didn't make the slightest bit of difference whether I had it or not. Ahahahahaha *sob*.

Then I got an iPhone, because Softbank is giving them away for free! The 8gig is free and the 16gig is 480yen a month, which is still very close to free.

When I got home, Olly Cat laughed at me and asked me if I was having an early mid-life crisis or something. Shut up, Olly Cat! What do you know! You're just a stupid cat scientist! Go invent something! Jeez!

The contact lenses will be good for the summer. I always imagine that on hot days, my eyes are warmer than they need to be because the spectacles act like a little greenhouse. (Nonsensical imagination is nonsensical.) On the other hand, I really identify with being a glasses-type.

I'll still be a glasses-type even if I'm not wearing glasses. It's like how I'm gaijin, even if I don't look it. Still, when I nod to other bespectacled humans I pass on the street, instead of nodding back with solidarity, they might just be confused and bewildered. I like to think that even if I am not overtly bespectacled, my fellow glasses-types will recognise me as one of them.
