Tsuki told me about one of the kids she taught drawing a picture of lovely Horo from Wolf and Spice, and that reminded me to carry on with this picture I started months ago.

It's an anime which treads a fine line between slow and cute, and slow and dull. If they swapped the ratios of 'merchant economics-based hijinx' and 'Horo turns into a 30-foot wolf' then it might be less boring. Horo is consistently marvellous though, whether she is 30-foot or not.

As you can see, it's a picture mainly about feet. No cut for small, worksafe picture.

I saw the film Ravenous yesterday, and I enjoyed it so much I thought I'd recommend it. It has Robert Carlyle in the wild west, a really marvellous top-notch score that Damon from Blur helped with, and fun cannibals in it. If you have not seen it, and you have a spare hour and a half in the run-up to Halloween, you could do worse than to watch it.

Jeez. No drawing for two months, eh. Jeez. All the disdainful cat scientists in Christendom are tutting at me.

I tried out Paint Tool Sai, which I loved! Real love. Like chocolate boxes and bouquets and walking around with a silly grin and everything.

It expired after a month though, and still lets me draw but does not let me save! Is this cruelty or mercy!? Who can know!

Anyway, it's so amazing I might actually buy it.

In the meantime, I have drawn a quick 25-minute monster:

Yuri Hime is a quarterly anthology magazine. I don't usually pick up anthology magazines, but this time, I was enticed by the pretty cover featuring gorgeous bifauxnen in Utenesque uniforms pouting and posing all over it.

They're characters from the unfortunately named Love DNA xx. That has to be in the running for worst named title of the year.

Still, it was fun to read.

Olly Cat seemed nonplussed, and just a little pitying, but didn't look over from where he was busily tinkering with dials and panels of lights and plastic mice and elastic bands. "Will you now. Perhaps you might be too busy putting biscuits in my bowl to *ahem* 'deck me'." he suggested blandly, "Or perhaps you might be too preoccupied with scratch-scratch-scratching behind my little ears to engage in fisticuffs." He yawned. "Just a suggestion. Best to think all the possibilities through before we go throwing flimsy threats around, eh."

An apology to start off with,
I have been extremely rubbish about commenting and replying to comments the past week or so. The results of a combination of being out and about more than usual, the barbarous summer heat, and being unreasonably tired out from school. I think that once Friday rolls around and the summer holidays start then I shall be better about it.

Also,
I have three or four posts that I wanted to write up, about 1)Olly Cat and his summer lab, 2) Higurashi no naku koro ni which seems to be an anime about how it's nice to play through a game more than once, 3) the Star Trek film and the new Romulan look, 4) the Demon Lord Mara and whether it's okay to find him funny since I'm clearly not fourteen years old. Those posts can wait until I'm not suffering from Lazyitis.

I think Kyoto Animation hates its fans.

At the end of last night's Haruhi it was like they were jeering contemptuously, "How dare you like our brilliant product!"

And I did. Like it.

Despite myself.

Mikuru's hair! Her adorable moe hair when she was crying about the classified information. Oh god. I don't usually like moe girl characters, but Mikuru is my favourite even though it by all rights should be Yuki. Her bikini when they went to the pool! Aaargh! I even love it when she cowers!

Anyway, eventually I'm not onlu going to like the brilliant product, but I'll like the actual abuse from KyoAni underlying it too. Jeez. Way to make me an M, KyoAni.

I've been taking ages to finish the shading off on this.

I hardly ever dream.

Or at least, I hardly ever remember my dreams.

The few times I remember dreaming in the last ten years or so are when I’ve caught the flu or when I’ve been in some other abnormal situation. Neither is the case at present. Despite that, I woke up this morning from a nightmare feeling so scared and inexplicably ashamed. You know, when you wake up still feeling the emotion, and then incredible relief that it was all just a dream. The thing is, when I thought it through, it wasn’t as though anything particularly scary happened in it.

There's a trailer for upcoming PS3 game TRICO. The gryphon thing in it is just like Olly. It is so exciting. It looks EXACTLY LIKE HIM. It is, oh my god, how does he have time to research and invent and do motion capture acting for video games! Busy little man!

The face the gryphon does at 2:45, that looks exactly like my favourite face for Olly to do. Oh god, he is so adorable. Oh god.

Some friends came over after karaoke for an after-party party and the first thing one said when he saw Olly walk in the room?

"Woah. That's... that's a really good-looking cat."

But of course! Objectively Beautiful Olly is objectively beautiful.

The first new episode of Suzumiya Haruhi was wonderful. Wonderful.

Started playing the Megaten game Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army! which has to be one of the best titles I've ever heard. I'll write up a review of it once I've played it through, but so far it is magnificent.

I've been carefully, determinedly skeptical this long.

I just don't want to get my heart broken again. There's only so many times I can get on my hands and knees with a tube of superglue gathering up the pieces muttering, "Good as new. Good as new. Good as new."

KyoAni and Kadokawa have just been such merciless, unrepentant teases about it before.

I don't dare make myself so vulnerable again.

It really ticks me off when kids act like they’re special and the rules don’t apply to them. I want to shake them and tell them, “Everyone’s different, yes, but that doesn’t mean ‘special treatment’. It just means everyone is equally mediocre in a variety of ways! You will be treated the same as all of the other equally mediocre children!”

There are so many secrets about roleplays on

fandomsecrets.

Sometimes, I want to lurk or even join one because it kind of sounds like fun. Mostly I'd just like to lurk to see what all the fuss is about.

But then, I probably wouldn't enjoy it. I don't think they're really the type of roleplay I'm really after.

I'd be yearning for the clack-clack of dice on a wooden table and "You take fifteen points of damage; roll for location," instead of all that lovey-dovey pretty-people-rubbing-up-against-each-other stuff that I (perhaps mistakenly or ignorantly) assume happens instead.

I really want to play in a Cyberpunk d10 system game. What the hell, self! I haven't played Cyberpunk for around eight years now. Even if I went back to England, I don't even think my friends play it any more either. I don't even know if they still have the books. The system wasn't even that nice. A lot of the supplement books were very, very broken and blaggy.

Or Witchcraft. That was quite a nice system with a nice setting too.
